2006-2007 Home Grown Kids - NearHim Home Educators Spelling Bee

On Monday, January 29, NHE will be combining with Home Grown Kids for a joint spelling bee. Children grades first through eighth are welcome to participate. Fourth through eighth graders will be competing for a chance to participate in the Orlando Sentinel Spelling Bee.
Location and Date: First Baptist Church of Oviedo Chapel
Monday, January 29th from 9 to 12 noon.
Cost: Make checks to NHE. Payment must be turned in by ________. $3 per student or $10 for a family with 4 or more participants. Families with a 4th-8th grade student need to pay $1 to have the spelling list mailed to them in December.

Spelling words for grades 4-8 will not be delivered until mid-December. Word lists from last year are available now and may be used to begin practicing. Contact Heather Shaffer for a copy.
Competition:
There will be five competitions for for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place: 1st graders by themselves. 2nd graders by themselves. 3rd graders by themselves. 4th graders by themselves. The 5th through 8 graders all compete together for their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. The first place winner goes to the county spelling bee and the 2nd place winner is the alternate in the event the first place person is sick, out of town or is too nervous. The county awards (a medal and a certificate) for 1st and 2nd place (a certificate) are also given out at the county bee.
Speller Eligibility for the County competition: Minimum grade is 4th grade. The maximum grade is 8th grade, and the speller must not have passed beyond the eighth grade on or before February 1, 2007. In addition, the speller must not have reached his/her 16th birthday on or before the date of the national finals, May 30, 2007. All participants will receive a ribbon.
